Not sure how I stumbled on the sad news that Dave Dud had passed on but glad I did because he was an amazing friend and a phenomenal race car driver. I became the man with the bag of spanners from 1974 thru 1977 when Dave had the Brabham BT18 an the March 708. With a lot of guidance from Dave Visard (Car & Car Conversions) we produced an engine that performed well for two if not three seasons before the formula changed to BDA. Our first outing at Castle Combe with that engine, a missed gear resulted in the car coming back in with the tell tale stuck at 12k but the engine still ran as sweet as a nut - Dave Vizard advice to the fore, concentrate on building a strong, well balanced bottom end - it never let us down.
Always amazed at what Dave Dud could procure in exchange for sausages - he shot off one day with a bag of sausages and returned with a smile and a pair of YB28 slicks :-)
In 77 I changed career, one option was to build race engines but I chose to run seismic exploration ships all over the world instead - as such I sadly lost touch with Dave and Barb, something I very much regret.
Sad to see you go Dave but not far behind you as I have leukmia - may be you will come roaring up behind me as I pass on.
Always grateful for your friendship - Nick Rushton (Rusty)
