RonaldDUKESIt is with immense pride and deep sadness that the family of Ronald "Ronnie" Dukes share the news of his peaceful passing on 27th May 2026, aged 102 years. Born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, Ronnie spent the last 67 years of his life in Scunthorpe, where he was a butcher by trade, a part-time fireman, a painter, a dancer, and the co-founder of
the Bottesford Bowls Club.
He served his country with extraordinary courage as a trooper with the 22nd Dragoons, landing on Juno Beach on
D-Day, 6th June 1944, driving his Crab flail tank through minefields so that thousands of Allied soldiers could follow safely behind him. He was awarded the Légion d'Honneur by France in recognition of his bravery.
On his 100th birthday he received a card from King Charles III.
Beloved husband of the late Carrie, with whom he shared 57 years. Father of the late David, father-in-law to Linda. Proud grandfather to Adam and Oliver. Adored great-grandfather to Gracie, Arthur, Yaz and Eden.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Ronnie's life will be held at Woodlands Crematorium, Scunthorpe on Friday 26th June 2026 at 12 noon. Smart dress please - no jeans. Donations in memory of Ronnie for the benefit of Baytree Court Residents' Fund may be left at the service or sent c/o: R. Wallace & Son, 58 High Street, Epworth, DN9 1EP.
