i used to work under his supervision at Cottingham hospital in 2012-2014 as a surgeon, he was an amazing consultant, my brother George , who is now a consultant as well, used to like him so much, so he made for him a portrait, years later, Mr Duthie told me that the portrait is still at his home . He used to love his family a lot, having toys at his car most of the times . he is someone who i will always remember as a great man and very sad that there were no family members with him in his last day .

Graeme nurtured so many of our minds, by being himself: Kind, friendly, intelligent, ever-thinking and always learning. He was genuinely interested, rather than ever desiring to be interesting. Though I was there for but a few of his achievements and firsts in surgery, I always knew there was so much more he should've gone on to do!

I am planning a visit home after 7 years and was looking up a number for him, so this has come as a huge shock. I have always considered him a mentor and friend in one and that is the way I will remember him. My heart-felt condolences to the girls; as private as Graeme always was and despite the grief he went through whilst alive, he would always beam with pride and his eyes would twinkle when he spoke about you! Know that though we have not met, I believe I remain indebted to Graeme; please do call on me if at all I can be of any Help whatsoever. I know he rests in peace. Kamal Heer. kamalduggie@aol.com

You did more for me and my family then you would ever know. I am still here and have a beautiful little boy all thanks to you and your support. I will miss our chats, giggles and bacon sandwiches as well as our coffees in Morrisons. You always supported me and I wouldn't be the nurse, mum or wife I am today without you. You always listened, cared and went beyond for me as a colleague, my surgeon and up most my friend. Sending all our love to your family and friends. RIP Prof
