Doris was our neighbour in Holmbridge, she described us as living 2 fields away, which I thought was wonderful.

She said she was the first neighbour to hold me as a baby when I got back from hospital after being born and I ‘was very quiet!’. She told me this when I interviewed her 39 years later when I was making a TV report about Covid in the Holme Valley. Even at 87 she still looked after a flock of sheep and while we were filming she climbed gracefully over a gate to tend to two lambs that needed extra milk. She had a grounded humility to her which I thought was very endearing and I admired her independence.

I feel honoured to have met her and to have listened to her life stories.
