Carol ZetherEDGLEYCarol Zether Edgley (Ickle Pixie), 51, passed away peacefully at home in Neath on 15th December 2020. Carol was born in South London in September 1969. Her first year was spent in Streatham, South London, and then to Bookham Surrey until the age of four. Her main family home was then in Leatherhead Surrey and she attended school in Leatherhead, Six-Form in Effingham, and then college in Ewell Surrey. In her early twenties, Carol moved from Surrey to the Neath area and has spent more than half her life in South Wales. She loved it here in Wales and to the angst of her Brothers even supported Wales over England in the Six Nations Championship. We do have family ties to the Valleys, our Fathers kin were from the Abertillery area and as kids, we spent time with our Great Aunt who never left her hometown of Six Bells. Carol was a proud, long term volunteer with Down to Earth Project on Gower. She came to the organisation after her beloved Barrie passed, to find "peace and purpose", as she said. Caz, as she was known, became such a valued member of our family, joining us for work nights out and team training days. Her enthusiasm, her strength through adversity, and her cheeky laugh endeared her to whoever had the opportunity to work alongside and share time with her. Whatever she turned her hand to, whether it be building a cob house, straw bale walls, working in the garden, or helping with the catering for large public events, Caz gave 100%. She was a hard-worker and tough as nails, but tender and caring of those she was supporting. She was well-loved by us all and a wonderful mentor and friend for other volunteers as they joined the project; treating everyone with respect and love regardless of their life circumstances. Caz had an innate ability to relate to people, to put them at ease, and make them feel better about themselves. We are a richer project for having had her alongside us for the journey. Over 9 years, we never heard Caz complain about her troubles once. She used to say how lucky she was to have the love of family and friends in her life and therefore had nothing to complain about. Every time, Caz came on site, she spread light and love and, as she always said.....a little bit of faerie dust. Caz will be missed dearly by every one of her friends at Down to Earth. Her life and light will be remembered with an oak tree, as she requested, a memorial plaque and bench at the Murton site on Gower. Carol was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer from being taken ill in December 2018. She had a major operation in February 2019 and for the next 15 months making good progress. Unfortunately, in May 2020 her Cancer returned and she fought it well for as long as she could. Through her illness, Carol always maintained a positive attitude and was inspirational in her outlook. In her final days, Carol was cared for by her sister Sharon, her niece Jenny and her other kin. She spoke of her journey and to be reunited with Barrie. Carol believed spiritually in the stars and will be looking down, smiling, and dancing. Carol will be cremated per her wishes on 31st December 2020. Per current pandemic rules her service will be a private family service, but we will have a "celebration of life" party for her with family and friends when circumstances allow, ideally around her birthday in September 2021. Per Carol making her life in Neath, this party will be in Neath. Carol was predeceased by her partner Barrie Mainwaring, and is survived by her Kin of Paul, Sharon, Steffani, Darrell, Kendall, and, Leon, and multiple nieces, nephews, and adopted kin, including but not limited to Kelly and Rachel. Carol and her family request no flowers. Donations can be made in her name to Pancreatic Cancer Research.
