ELLISONVi January 1920 - August 2018 Our mother, Vi Ellison, passed away peacefully on Saturday 25th August. Old age just caught up with her at 98 years. A remarkably intelligent, honourable, strong, kind and loving woman, she was a much-cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family. Vi and her husband Philip were leading lights in the creation of the non-political Ratepayers' Association in Bishop's Stortford; in the 1970s and 80s, the Party gaining seats on the Local, District and County Councils. Vi served as Mayor of Bishop's Stortford in 1984. Vi worked tirelessly for the residents of Bishop's Stortford for many years and was totally dedicated to listening and acting on people's concerns. One of her successes was helping to save the Corn Exchange from demolition and another was getting a by-pass built that takes through traffic away from the town. Even of late, Vi said she hoped people would bring back The Ratepayers Association concept. A Service for Vi will be held at St. Michael's Church, Bishop's Stortford on Wednesday 26th September at 12.30pm. This will be followed by her laying to rest at Bishop's Stortford Cemetery, Apton Road, CM23 3UE at 2pm, where she will be reunited with Philip. No flowers please but any donations are most welcome to campaigns close to Vi's heart: the 'Gilfrere Fund' and "Stop Stansted Expansion' You are also invited, if you wish, to add a touch of tartan or something Scottish to acknowledge how special this heritage was to Vi.We are hoping to see many of you who remember Vi at her Funeral.David Ellison, Judith Slater and Miranda Cook.
