Peter & AnnELWELLELWELL Peter & Ann Friends and family may have read the notice of Ann Elwell's (neé Cash) passing on March 20th. Ann (the first ever Essex Chronicle "Mrs Chelmsford") had been suffering for more than a decade with Alzheimer's disease and died peacefully at Manor Lodge on March 20th 2026.
Despite the inevitable sense of loss, the family is united in its relief; that Ann is finally free from the ordeal of suffering from Alzheimer's and the consequent impacts on her quality of life and her inability to interact with family and friends.
To the shock and distress of the whole family, Peter, aged 89, Ann's husband of 64 years, died suddenly of a short illness on April 22nd - the planned day of Ann's funeral. There are no words to express the family's collective sorrow at Peter's death, mitigated only by the belief that he is reunited now with his beloved Ann and his parents.
The family thanks the superb team at Broomfield Hospital for their professionalism and for their incredible sensitivity and kindness during an impossibly difficult 24 hours - our NHS at its very best.
Peter and Ann are survived by three generations of their family... their children Simon, Adam and Lucy; their grandchildren Josephine, Amy, Lucy and Rebecca; and great grandsons Benjy and Archie.
Peter & Ann's joint funeral and burial will take place at St Andrew's Church, Sandon on May 13th (14:30).
Family flowers only please. Donations in Ann's and/or Peter's memory, if desired, to the Alzheimer's Society c/o Pennacks Funeral Directors.
