I am so sad to learn of the passing of Coach Farrell.

I joined Farrell MMA in Summer 2010 with the hopes of competing. I remember walking into the gym and feeling nervous and here comes this real life Street Fighter character walking towards me. I was in awe. Anyone who met Coach Farrell remembers how incredible he looked but not only that, he had such a warm and welcoming presence that made you feel at ease and I knew then I belonged there.

“Leave your ego at the door”

Those were the first words Coach said to me and he treated everybody that walked into his gym regardless of background or skill level the same. He just wanted to see you give everything and he brought out the best in you.

I remember very distinctly being on the receiving end of one of Coach’s famous Judo throws whilst sparring him and then looking at me that cheeky smile of his. I smile every time I think about that. Coach was the man.

Within a matter of months Coach had me ready to compete at my first amateur MMA fight. I have shared a picture of that day and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life. Not only did I win but I got to share that win with Coach and the team. That meant the world to me.

Shortly after that fight I struggled to balance MMA training with my University studies and lost contact with Coach and the team. As I live away from Huddersfield and have no social media contact it saddens me I did not get to see him again to just catch up and see how he was doing.

Thank you Coach for all the time, energy and life lessons you instilled into me. I will forever treasure all the memories we had together.

Much Love, Perry
