Norman BarryFERNS('Barry') Moving stories, moving parts, moving on Barry Ferns had been the face of Norman Ferns Removals for over three decades; a business that has helped thousands of local families at such pivotal life moments as they moved into new houses, downsized or supporting them when loved ones passed to move their possessions on. It was a role he felt privileged to do, and led to three generations of his family working in the family business. Barry's family are sorry to announce that he sadly passed away peacefully in his sleep, aged 74, on April 13th, with his family and partner, Sharon all by his side. Barry continued to support the business until the very end; his life's commitment to the job keeping him going despite his health concerns. However he was also a devoted petrol head and thrived on tinkering with classic cars, vans, trucks and bikes - anything that moved! He was thrilled recently to have been able to finish several of these projects and enjoy some last 'runs out' in them. Barry leaves behind Sharon, his soulmate for long road trips on the bike and nights out for good country music, and just sometimes sequence dancing. He sought great comfort from knowing his business was going to be in the very safe hands of his eldest son, Daniel, supported by Mathew, his younger son, and other close family members - Emily and Holly. He also leaves behind daughter Kathryn, who caught more than a little of the bike bug with her dad. We know he'll be watching from above as his grandchildren grow up, and keeping an eye on their antics, and bursting with pride when they start to drive, tinker with cars or play his guitar. His four step children will also deeply miss him as he had been so involved in their lives. Always keen to see kids enjoying adventure, he was the regular provider of the annual bonfire night fire and hotdogs for Leek 5th Scouts, a tradition that will always fondly remember him. In his final days his sisters, Pam and Val, had been able to help him reminisce over photos of family occasions and holidays in the 70s, wrapping up a lifetime of memories, in those trade grey blankets, and carefully packaging them off for their final journey, Barry's time to move on. Barry's funeral will be held at St. Edward's Church Leek at 12.30pm on Thursday 11th May followed by interment at Leek Cemetery. His family would like to invite his many life long friends to the service, and to raise a glass afterwards at The Maude Institute, Clerk Bank, Leek. Leathers or dancing clothes, any donations would be gratefully collected to raise money for Cancer Research UK and The Douglas Macmillan Hospice. Further inquiries to :- David H.
