FLORA SWIREBrilliant student Flora Swire died a day before turning 24 as one of the 270 victims of the Lockerbie bombing.She was on board the Pan Am Flight 103 from Heathrow to New York on 21 December, 1988 when the plane was ripped apart by a terrorist bomb in the skies above Lockerbie, killing 243 passengers, 16 crew members and 11 residents of the Scottish Borders town.Flora Swire, from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, had recentlygraduated with a first-class degree from medical school and was due tobegin a PhD at the Institute of Neurology in London.She was travelling to the States to spend Christmas with her American boyfriend.In the aftermath of the disaster, Flora's father, Jim Swire, a doctor, became one of the leading spokespeople of the victims group UK Families Flight 103 and called vociferously for truth and justice from the authorities.In Flora's name he has also campaigned for improved airport safety. Travelling the world he always carried a photograph of his daughter to show to international dignitaries.As well as her father, she was survived by her mother, Jane, sister, Kathie and brother, William.
