HoraceFREEARMr Horace Freear, formerly of Moss Hall Road, passed away peacefully at Wellfield Care Home on Sunday, June 19, at the grand age of 101. Horace was born in Bradford but moved to Accrington in 1926. He met his late life Isobel when they were teenagers, and they went on to share 77 years of happy married life together. He was a devoted father to his sons David and Steven, a thoughtful father-in-law to Marilyn and Ruth, a loving grandfather to Paul and Rachel, a cherished great-grandfather to Isaac, Ellie, and Dylan in New Zealand, and a much loved uncle to Terri and Jacqueline. Horace left school aged 14 and joined the team led by his father, George Freear, a well respected steeplejack, where he worked on mill chimneys and church steeples throughout the Accrington area. In 1947, Horace set up his own successful steeplejack and property repairer’s business, which kept him busy until he retired in 1982. In retirement he was a dedicated volunteer at The Accrington and District Blind Society, where, supported by Isobel, he worked tirelessly helping others. He also supported Isobel with her voluntary work at the Accrington Cancer Research Shop. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed family gatherings, holidays abroad, and following the fortunes of Accrington Stanley. The family would like to thank all the wonderful, hard-working and dedicated staff at Wellfield Care Home, who were all like family to Horace and Isobel. Thank you also to all their supportive neighbours and friends from Moss Hall Road. A celebration of Horace’s long life will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, July 1 at 11am, led by Debra Phillips. Family flowers only please, but donations can be made to The Accrington and District Blind Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
