Valerie MaryFRYValerie Mary Fry (Gedge), a member of the Cranbrook Community for many years, sadly passed away on Sunday 13th November, aged 86. Born in Bexley to Albert and Marjorie she enjoyed horse-riding and painting in her early years, and talked with great fondness about her time at the Bank of England before moving to Horsmonden in 1963 to raise her family. Moving to Cranbrook in 1975 she was a secretary with Murton's in the High Street and was a great supporter of the windmill and bowls club as well as being Secretary to the cricket club, history society and even wrote a weekly column in the Kent Courier documenting community life. Valerie also greatly enjoyed her holidays in France and her time in the garden in the shadow of the windmill. Valerie would be regularly seen around the town chatting to her friends and also provided her calligraphy talents to many shop windows advertising local events. She will be very much missed. A service will be held at Kent and Sussex Crematorium, Tunbridge Wells on Friday 2nd December at 9.30. The family will provide flowers but should you wish to make a donation to the Hospice in the Weald it would be appreciated as Valerie and her late husband Maurice both supported this charity.
