Peter MartinFRYERPeter was a much loved family man. Always making himself available to help, support and encourage in a non-judgemental way. Loving husband to Vyvian for 63 years of marriage. As daughters, we felt incredibly lucky to have him as 'Our Dad'. He was also a loyal friend, enjoying spending time with many friends. Peter was a committed Christian. A man of great integrity. A lifelong, and active member of St George's Church, Jesmond. He was involved in many ways - as Church Warden, on the PCC, Fete and Expo organiser ... but most of all, he cared about the Church family, wanting it to be caring, welcoming and inclusive to all. He always made time to chat to newcomers. Peter worked hard, and with enthusiasm, for Newcastle Protection and Indemnity Association (Marine Insurance) his entire working life, latterly as General Manager. He enjoyed working alongside his father for much of that time. He cared about his colleagues and fostered a caring atmosphere at work. Peter also volunteered for Abbeyfield Society for over 50 years, for much of the time as Treasurer. Peter lived in Jesmond and Gosforth all his life and loved being involved in the local community. He enjoyed varied styles of music, particularly live music. He was keen to encourage young people to develop their musical talents. He was friendly and chatty to everyone. If he could help anyone, he always would. Peter coped with dementia in latter years - with his typical positivity and fortitude. He continued to enjoy life as much as he could, always keen to go on trips out, listening to music and loving to spend time in his beautiful garden. He continued to be welcoming, kind and appreciative of any help offered right until the end of his life. He had a deep sense of peace. It was always a pleasure to spend time with him. Peter will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. We plan a celebration and Thanksgiving for his life on Saturday 29th October at 2.30pm at St George's Church, Jesmond. Everyone welcome. Please wear something bright.
