I only learned of Keith’s passing last Tuesday at a Railway Engineering event in Dublin. A kind of completion, because he and I first met on a British Railways induction course for junior engineers in Derby in 1967. He was a little older than most of us, already with experience in industry, and a lot more sense as well, certainly than me. He became a very good friend, especially when he and I arrived in Cardiff at much the same time, and I often enjoyed hospitality from Marilyn and Keith at Bradfield Avenue in Bridgend. We kept up contact during all the years since, as our career paths diverged, but when we met, even after extended periods, the years just fell away; it was always like we had been together just the day before. I also had the opportunity to provide hospitality this side of the Irish Sea, most memorably when Keith and his biking buddy came on their bikes, a dramatic saga involving breakdowns on the road and a high-speed journey to the wrong ferryport! But they got here, and it was another good reunion. It was a great privilege to have known Keith, and Marilyn, for so many years. As I revisit old memories, the words that keep coming to mind are very simple – he was a genuinely good man.
Deepest sympathy to Keith and Marilyn’s daughter and the extended family.
