GeorgeGAINEMR George Edward Gaines, of Queens Road, Accrington, born September 22, 1925, died peacefully aged 95 on Friday, January 1 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital after a short stay. George started his working life with Howard & Bullough, Accrington as an apprentice maintenance engineer. With the company’s support, George gained his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and worked his way up to Work’s Engineer at the Accrington site, as well as overseeing their international sites too. After his retirement at 60, George and Joyce enjoyed travelling and took holidays both in the UK and abroad together. George was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following his team, Accrington Stanley which he had supported and watched from being a child. George was the dearly loved husband of the late Joyce, much loved father of the late Brent, treasured grandad to Mark and Matthew, and great grandad to Victoria, Cameron, Rio, Ruby, Ethan and Alannah. During the current circumstances and restrictions, a small service will be held on Tuesday, January 26 at St John’s Church, Accrington, at 10am, followed by a private service for immediate family at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please; donations may be made in memory of George to the RSPCA via funeral director Wolstenholme Funeral Service.
