CarolineGANT25 September 1950 - 10 June 2022 Caroline Gant, daughter of Joan Trimble and Jack Gant, beloved sister of Joanna and Nick, adored wife for 36 years of Anthony and mother to Emily, died in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne after a short intense illness on 10th June. Throughout her working career in London and Birmingham, so full of exceptional achievements, she was professionally admired but even more she was universally loved, as an open-hearted colleague for whom her relationships were even more important than her achievements. For the last decade of her life she was the passionately committed initiator of the Summerhill Trust, created to care for Summerhill Square which she cherished, and open it up as a welcoming community resource. Caroline was limitlessly kind, generous and funny, with an inexhaustible love of life. She was a devoted and loving friend to so many people, most recently in the North East where she lived for 22 years, and in Canada where she lived for five. On 13th July we will be holding her funeral and giving thanks for her life at 2pm at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne, followed at 5.30pm by a community celebration in Summerhill Pavilion and Gardens, Summerhill Square. As an alternative to flowers, we would ask you to consider a donation to the Critical Care Unit at the NHS Royal Victoria Infirmary, who gave Caroline extraordinarily kind, skilled and dignified care during her final three weeks.
