JohnGAVANIt is with great sadness that the family of John James Gavan from Baxenden and formerly of Fields Road, Haslingden, announce his passing following a short illness, on the July 23, at the age of 84.

John passed away at Royal Blackburn Hospital and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Anne and his daughter Alison - and was the father of the late Matthew. He also leaves his grandchildren Wilson, Harrison, Brogan and Ricco, his two great-grandchildren Eva and Hunter and also his brothers Peter and Ernest.

Following a period of national service, John worked at Porritts before retraining as a plumber and over the years worked as maintenance for the NHS, first at Calderstones and then Rossendale General Hospital. In his retirement he played the role of Father Christmas at Hillside Nursery School in Haslingden. John was a lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter and season ticket holder. He was an avid bowler, keen photographer and enjoyed many weekends at Ocean Edge Caravan Park with his family.

John’s family would like to express their thanks to staff on ward C5 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and on Ribblesdale Ward at Clitheroe Community Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are being organised by Johnson, Durning and Woods who can be contacted for further information.
