MartinGAVINpassed away peacefully in the company of his family, on October 8 (his 95th Birthday). He was born in County Mayo, on the West coast of Ireland, on the family farm. He loved working on the farm, but also drove wagons and taxis and sang and played drums in the local dance hall in the evenings. After moving to England he had a variety of occupations as a bus driver, engineer, sales rep and security guard before retiring at 80 years old whilst working for LCC. He lived in Oswaldtwistle for the last 50 years and was a member of various social clubs as well as an active member of St Mary’s Church congregation. He leaves behind a wife, Jean, children Paul, Michael, Jane and Sean, daughter in laws Tracy and Angela, son in law Michael as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A service will be held at St Mary’s RC Church on Friday, October 28 at 12.30pm, followed by a burial at Dill Hall Cemetery. Family flowers only but donations to Cancer Research are welcome at Hyndburn Funeral Services.

Sincere sympathy to Jean, Paul, Michael, Jane & Sean and extended Gavin family on the passing of Martin. He was my Uncle and a great character who will be sadly missed. He never forgot his roots and we would be so delighted to see him every summer when he would come to visit Glenisland and Castlebar, in County Mayo, to see us all. He loved the craic, the parties, the weddings and maybe a pint, or two. He was a great dancer and I enjoyed having a waltz with him and he steering me around the floor. May Martin rest in eternal peace with the rest of the Gavin family gone before him. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. Go Raibh Suaimhneas Siorai Air.
