Brian WGIBBONSIn loving memory of Brian Gibbons

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Brian Gibbons, at the age of 91. Brian was predeceased by his loving wife and our mother, June Margaret Gibbons in 1986. Brian is survived and deeply missed by his daughters, Sara and Kate; by Sara's spouse Ted Wooding; and by niece and nephews, Pat Fitzgibbons, Roger Gibbons and Andrew Gibbons in England. Dad was born in Birmingham, England and emigrated to Canada with his new wife, June in 1959. A qualified electrical engineer at this point, Dad settled down to a new life with Mom in St. Catherines, Ontario where he began working for the English Electric Co. After a couple of years in St. Catherines, Mom and Dad made a move to Toronto where Dad began a long and fulfilling career with Walter Dow and Associates. There he worked on mining and other engineering projects that took him to the northern most parts of Canada and all over the world, including Switzerland, Guyana, and Tunisia. Dad made friendships forged by his many activities and memberships both at work and in the community, including the United Church and the "writing club". Later in life Dad wrote several memoirs and short stories, wrote thoughtful letters to parliamentarians, and was published in the "Brummagem". Dad loved reading - newspapers, library books, and poems - he enjoyed them all and always had a good book on hand. He loved Christmas concerts, the ballet, puzzles, walks in High Park, and puttering in the garden. For many years he travelled to England every year, visiting with friends and family and travelling to Wales with his older brother, Ken. Dad was a proud Brummie and Canadian, and fortunately for us introduced us to all things English and Canadian, for which we are eternally grateful. Dad enjoyed friendships with people all over the world. Everyone who knew him will miss his warmth and good nature. He was cheerful and kind, a true gentleman and the best Dad ever. Dad will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, June. Special thanks to Dad's friends and neighbors who have been very kind to us during this time of sorrow.

A funeral service will be held at Runnymede United Church at 432 Runnymede Road, Toronto, ON, M6S 2Y8 on Sunday November 19th at 2pm followed by a private, family interment at Park Lawn Cemetery.

What a truly lovely man Uncle Brian was.
We enjoyed exchanging letters with him and were touched that he thought to pass on a couple of his engineer gadgets to our son Matthew as he graduated as an engineer a couple of years back.
Uncle Brian had a lovely sense of humour and we all treasure the copy of his memoir of years growing up in England.
We’re so glad we got to meet up with Brian, Sara and Kate in Toronto a couple of years ago.
Sending all our thoughts to Sara and Kate at this sad time.

Andrew Gibbons (nephew), Margaret and great nephews Luke & Matthew.
Andrew Gibbons
