I am sorry to hear of Mike Gillard's passing. Known to us as 'Sir' he had a powerhouse personality. Resplendent in black gown and sideboards, he would swoop down the corridors of New College to the English Classes in A block, leaving silence in his wake. 'Charisma' is an overused word today but he had it in spades. He took great delight in vocalising the characters in the books we studied. I particularly remember his Shylock in 1975 ! Farewell a much respected and totally dedicated Master of English.

Very sad to see this notice. A much admired English Teacher during my time at New College.
