David WilliamGILLIGANMR David William Gilligan, a lifelong resident of Bacup, died peacefully in Fairfield General Hospital, Bury on Friday, April 17 after a long illness, aged 87. Originally a joiner by trade, he worked for a number of years as a clerk of works for Rossendale Borough Council before his retirement. David was a member of Bacup Golf Club for many years and served as both Captain and President. Beloved husband of 64 years to Shirley, he was father to Ross and Barbara and father-in-law to Yvonne and Graham, brother to Michael, and grandad to Roger, Ryan, Martyn, Kevan and Andrew. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. A private burial was held on Friday, April 24 at Bacup Cemetery conducted by Fr. Chris McGrane. A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place later in the year and an announcement will be made nearer the time. Family flowers only, donations to Prostate Cancer UK.
