Derek ThomasGLOVERof Whiteacre Road, Baxenden peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 17 at The Manor House Nursing Home in Chatburn. Derek was aged 96 years.

Derek was born in Accrington but was brought up in Exeter then returned to Accrington in his teens.
He was a time served joiner before doing Military Service in the Royal Navy, serving on HMS Illustrious. He then studied at Coventry College of Technology and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and later as a Chartered Arbitrator, becoming a fellow member of both Institutions. Derek Glover was chief Surveyor for A. Spencer and Sons Ltd before joining a Manchester Surveying Practice. In 1979 he formed his own Quantity Surveying Practice in Accrington under the name of Derek Glover Partnership which now continues in the former Karrimor building on Eastgate. Mr Glover was at one time a member and secretary of Accrington Rotary Club, chairman of Lancashire and Cumbria Branch of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors, member and past chairman of Accrington Probus Club, past chairman of Chaigley Manor Trustees, Accrington Civic Trust and a former director of Accrington Citizens Advice Bureau. A keen sportsman and supporter of Blackburn Rovers and Accrington Stanley, he was also interested in photography, painting, gardening and woodwork.

Derek was the dearly loved father of Anne Dean, Janet Elleray and Andrew Glover, grandfather of Chris, Andrew and Philip Dean, Tom, Katherine and Lucy Elleray, Joe and Robert Glover and was proud gramps to Bill, Mae, Arthur, Josie and Teddy, his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements at Accrington Crematorium yet to be confirmed.

Family flowers only but donations to Derian House Children’s Hospice are welcome via the
Hyndburn Funeral service.
