The obituary notice of Peter Clifford GOODE

Two years may have drifted by since you passed but I think of you often, particularly the early days at Dad's workshop in Tyesley, our months together at Cresswell, Grimsby, Bawtry and Caistor, our days out together tuning Organs near and far. I'm forever grateful to have spent that time with you and for the many things you taught me. God bless you Peter, we will meet again one day, of that I'm sure and when we do, I'll thank you personally.

I meant to add to my earlier tribute to Peter so I hope this can be included. After my father's death in 1981, Peter and I were faced with a monumental task of finishing a huge job in hand at Caistor, Lincolnshire which was only a third completed at that stage. Peter came into his own, the organ rebuild was completed in the early summer of 1982. I recently wrote to the church and they told me that they had very fond memories of Peter and the organ is one of the finest in the county. I told him this during our last conversation, I wanted him to know just how good he was and how much his work was valued. Peter was a modest man but his work speaks volumes of who he was. I trained to be a nurse in 1983 but for several years, we still found time to maintain the tuning connection until a change in my life circumstances finally prevented us from continuing. I will always be grateful and privileged to have known and worked with Peter Goode. God bless him.

I got to know Peter because he worked alongside my father as an accomplished church organ builder. Peter was the best carpenter I ever saw, he was precise, thorough and all of his work was of the highest standards. There would not have been a Harris Church Organs, had it not been for Peter. Indeed, after my father's death in November 1981, Whatever practical skills I possess today is essentially because of Peter, he was a patient, skilled and considerate tutor. Outside of work he was devoted to his family, his garden and his dog. He was a keen supporter of Birmingham City FC, he enjoyed speedway racing and had a fascination for aircrafts. Peter was a thoroughly decent, trustworthy, kind and gentle man in every sense. His death has saddened me greatly but I will always treasure the memories I have of him and remember him with great affection and respect.
