Cyril George Gray was born in Larkhall, Bath as the second son of George Gray an established Baker and Confectioner whose first business was the Victoria House Bakery in St Saviours Road, Larkhall followed by Larkhall Steam Bakery at Lambridge Buildings. Cyril followed in his father's footsteps immediately he left school. The family business ran until 1965 but Cyril returned to Larkhall in the 1980s when he produced bread for Threshers of Bathford.
He served in the Infantry in WW2 from 1943 to 1947 and whilst part of the occupying forces in Germany with the Royal Scots Fusiliers he impressed his CO with his Bath Buns and won a transfer to the Army Catering Corps.
Historic links with Swainswick and Woolley village led to his ashes being scattered around that locality.
