Dear Linda and family, unfortunately I cannot attend Dennis' funeral service but I wanted you to know how much I respected Dennis. He and I worked together briefly at Ashington before I moved on to Newcastle West. I saw him occasionally at various functions and exchanged information with him about police history. As deputy registrar he dealt with the administration following my mother's death. I always found Dennis to be a friendly, warm hearted man and a good police officer. He had a ready smile and cheery manner. He will be sadly missed. I last saw him to speak with at Gavin Breeze's funeral and before that, with his camera at Woodhorn Museum. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. I trust you have good support but please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Barry Stewart.

It was a real privilege to have known and worked with you Dennis. You were such a caring man and it was a pleasure to be beavering (a favourite Dennis expression) away registering whilst you conducted a wedding. So many happy memories, thank you.

I first met Dennis when he was my Sergeant at Byker. I was a young cop and he kept me on the straight and narrow and always looked out for me. Many years later, in his capacity as a registrar, he married Roy and I at Matfen Hall. He was part of a very special day. Our hearts go out to Linda and all of Dennis’s family. I hope they will take comfort in knowing that every year, on our anniversary, we will raise a glass to the lovely man who married us. Rest in peace old friend.
