EsmeGRIFFITHSPassed away at Highcroft Hall, Wolverhampton on 9th April 2024 aged 98. Long term resident of Wednesfield, Wolverhampton but born and bred in Bedminster, Bristol. Wife of the late Mr Geoffrey Griffiths. Daughter of the late Mr Richard Wilson (butcher) and Mrs Ellen Wilson (nee Rowland). Father worked as butcher and manager at Jones' Butchers, Victory House, 107 West Street, Bedminster. Grandfather Charles Wilson (also known as William Jones) respected well known butcher and company owner in Bedminster area. Maternal grandfather Thomas Rowland from deep rooted Bedminster coal mining family. Born in Avonleigh Road and later living in Somermead, Esme attended South Street and Parson Street schools before working in the hairdressing department at Brights of Bristol. Sadly, her home in Somermead was destroyed during the Bristol Blitz in WW2 but fortunately the family and cat survived. She later signed up and served in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) and briefly meeting Winston Churchill was among her memories of this period. Sister of the late Charles, Edna, Richard, Ronald and Brenda. Mother of Geoffrey, Julie, Susan and Tina. Grandmother of Gaynor, Richard, Scott, Michael, Christopher, Lee, Peter, Lily and Amy. Great Grandmother of many. So sad and devastated nan that you've passed away. You have been an amazing grandmother and I am comforted in the knowledge that you've been reunited with loved ones who have already left us (including your beloved dog Shan). Thank you for all the good times, your memories of our ancestors and Bristol, much laughter and discussing your fondness for brandy (which you called your health drink to the very end). Lots of love from grandson Michael xx.
