BernardGRIMSHAWMr Bernard Grimshaw, of Accrington, died on Tuesday, May 17, peacefully in hospital with his family at his side, aged 84. Bernard, son of the late Jim and Rosie Grimshaw, was born and brought up in Padiham. Bernard spent his schooldays at St John the Baptist School in Padiham, before starting work at Blezards Fireplaces in the town. Bernard moved on from Blezards to Padiham Power Station, and then Faircloughs, completing his working life at United Utilities. Bemard, a lifelong fan of Burnley FC, was passionate about sport, especially football - at which he excelled, playing for a number of good amateur sides in the Accrington and Burnley leagues. In his later years he swapped playing for spectating and was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren and could be heard shouting on from the sidelines. He also took up walking and could be seen most days striding out up Burnley Road. Bernard loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a source of great pride to him. Bernard was a lifelong member of both St Anne’s and St Joseph’s Churches. Bernard was the devoted husband of the late Kathleen Grimshaw, dearly loved brother of Eunice, the much-loved Dad of Catherine, David and Christopher, the sadly missed father-in-law of David and Christine, a devoted and treasured Pops to Laura, Conor, Callum, Dominic, Liam, Bethany, Kieren, Frankie and Lennon, and Great-Pops to Amber and George. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Requiem Mass to celebrate his life will be held at St Anne’s RC Church, Accrington, on Friday, May 27 at 10am, prior to interment at Accrington Cemetery. Family flowers only please; donations if so desired to the Accrington and District Blind Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Service, Accrington.
