GUIDO LORRAINEActor and singer most famous for his war films, Guido Lorraine - also known as Guy Borucki - has died at the age of 97.He played opposite such starlets as Yvonne de Carlo, Pier Angeli and Bond girl Honor Blackman in a film catalogue that includes Hotel Sahara (1951), The Colditz Story (1955) and Blue Murder at St Trinians (1957).Other films included Hotel Sahara withPeter Ustinovand The Colditz Story with Sir John Mills.He appeared in 28 films in all, and also starred in a number of plays on the West End theatre circuit.The soldier, musician, singer and actor was born in Poland in 1912. He learned to play the piano and accordion as a child and after graduation studied at the School of Foreign Trade in Lvov. He began to sing and dance in the city's restaurants to make ends meet.During the Second World War he formed a military theatre group and was credited with being the first artist to perform the patriotic song Red Poppy Flowers of Monte Cassino.As Guy Borucki he moved to London after the war and stayed until 1958, working in BBC radio, film and television, as well as on stage in musical comedies and operettas.He left in 1959 to perform in Australia and stayed there. His career included his own television program, revues, cabarets and performances for Poles in Australia.He died in Melbourne on December 31, 2009.
