RoyHADWENOn Wednesday, October 13, peacefully at his home in Oswaldtwistle, Roy, aged 89. Roy was a much loved family member and a special uncle. After his National Service with the Air Force, based in Cyprus, Roy became a plasterer for Blackburn Borough Council. He then worked for Broughton’s Plumbers Merchants in Accrington as a wagon driver until his retirement. A huge part of Roy’s life was his love for Accrington Stanley, and he gave his heart and soul to helping the club. When they were struggling, Roy offered to sell the raffle tickets. He walked for miles - from Accrington to Chorley, Haslingden, Burnley, Blackburn selling tickets, always on foot. He also sold quite a few winning tickets. Roy loved attending the matches with his niece, Shirley. In recognition of his devotion to the club, former Chairman Eric Whalley, gave Roy a lifetime season ticket. Roy was a quiet man who kept himself to himself and enjoyed spending time at home and in his garden, which was a haven of beautiful colour during the summer months.
