You'll never be forgotten. A nicer guy you'd find hard to equal. Salt of the earth. x

Deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I knew Dave from the Grimsby days and Saltfleetby. He was a true and loyal friend coming to anyone's aid whenever needed. He was kindness itself, I remember he couldn't do enough for his dog Gyp, and fretted about her dew claws forever catching and causing her pain. Such a gentle soul. We lost touch many, many years ago, and he seemingly vanished from the face of the earth. I'll always remember the crazy days at 'Bedlam', the nickname of the house in 'Soloby' where he lived with a couple of his mates. Bless you Dave, it was a privilege to have known you. x

It was always a delight when Dave was around.
Always friendly, knowledgeable (music and beer being his specialist subjects).
Great patience, showed my brother how to play chords on a guitar and in fact sold him his first electric guitar. Plus, Dave’s humour, I have been thinking back to some of the things he did and said. I was lucky enough to be in a couple of bands with him and he was the perfect antidote to the fury of the Punk Rock n Roll He was a peer among performers. I worked as a D.J at the Pestle and Mortar (Grimsby) The photo shows me and Dave leaning over with his regular request….………….got any Iggy Pop ?

Dave’s old school pal John Robinson’s tribute ending “May your spirit of the age find peace on the edge of time…” is really touching. John cleverly integrates two Hawkwind song titles into his quote: ‘Spirit of the Age’ from Quark, Strangeness & Charm and, ‘find peace on the edge of time’, a cute rewording of Warrior On the Edge of Time. Well done, John – this is absolutely perfect for Dave!
Here are two more photos of Dave. The first one is of Dave and me in the dressing room after one of our two gigs at Grimsby Central Hall in 1980. Dave’s face is lit up with laughter. The second one is circa 1984/85 at a band reunion: Dave, me. Dave & Billy.

I knew David from our days at Hereford Comprehensive School 1971-1977. We were in the same year - the same classes for many subjects. A nicer kid you could not meet - he's now only one of few I remember from those days. We were both into the same sort of music back then, and often talked in the week about the stuff we'd heard on Alan Freeman's radio show on a Saturday afternoon. I know he was into Hawkwind even then - it was he who recommended them to me, and on that I bought my first Hawkwind album. We were in the same geology class in the 6th form and I recall going on 3-day field trip to Yorkshire when we stayed in a YMCA - jeez, could he snore loud! I never saw him after then, but every time I hear a Hawkwind song I always think back to those days and memories of David.

May your spirit of the age find peace on the edge of time, old friend
