It is with great sadness that we remember Mr. Mike Hasshill who was a beloved and brilliant Head Teacher at (Original) St. Stephens School many years ago.

His passion for education 📚 and unwavering support for every student made a lasting impact on the lives of those who had the privilege to learn under his guidance. 🌟

Mr. Hasshill was not only an exceptional educator but also a gifted writer. ✍️ He wrote & directed many wonderful scripts for school performances, including the memorable play "Mary Ann." 🎭 His creativity and dedication to the arts enriched the school community and inspired countless students to explore their talents. 🎶

He was known for his gentle demeanor and his love for Polo Mints, a quirky and endearing trait that many fondly remember. 🍬

When he married Miss Matthews, another wonderful teacher at St. Stephens, our class gifted him a packet of Polo Mints as a light-hearted wedding gift, a testament to the warmth and affection he inspired in his students. 💕

Mr. Hasshill’s kindness, intelligence, and dedication to education will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations. 🌹

In Loving Memory of Mike Hasshill

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mike Hasshill, a dear friend and a cherished member of the St. Stephen's School community. Mike's vibrant personality and love for life left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

One of the fondest and most touching memories comes from Professor Vincent Hooper, who, at just six years old, asked Mike to be his mum's boyfriend. It was a simple, heartfelt gesture from a young boy who already recognized the kindness and warmth that Mike brought into their lives. This memory is a testament to Mike's gentle nature and the profound way he touched those around him, even at a young age.

Mike's presence was felt in every performance, especially during his role producing the "Pirates of Penzance." His talent and passion for the arts shone brightly, bringing joy and energy to every stage he graced. His voice and his laughter were a source of happiness, leaving a lasting impression on all of us. The camaraderie and joy we shared during those rehearsals and performances will always be treasured.

The Barbican Ballad was another special time where Mike’s love for music and friendship brought people together, creating moments of laughter and joy that we will forever hold dear. His ability to connect with people, to bring out the best in them, and to make every gathering feel like a celebration is a legacy that will live on in our hearts.

He was my headmaster at St Stephen’s and taught me respect and obedience which in today’s world is sorely missing! I will remember his heelies on his highly polished shoes and his stick which he carried on his rounds around the school. The Pirates of Penzance was our school production and for a small primary school it was very ambitious! Only he could have choreograph and got us all to sing Gilbert and Sullivan! I still remember it now! His assemblies were alway quiet and never did we speak when he was talking! I am 56 now and he made a positive impact on my life x

I was lucky enough to have met Mike when I played in the Liskeard Silver Band as a teenager. Mike and I struck up a friendship, which led to him teaching me French Horn, for free, for about a decade until I left for University. Being an ex-headmaster Mike had so much knowledge to give, and tales to tell. Mike was much more than my French Horn teacher, he was a very good friend, an entertaining storyteller and one of my biggest supporters. He took me to concerts, encouraged my love of music and let me come and spend time with his livestock. He effectively became as we discussed one day my honorary Grandad. Mike lived his life to the fullest and I ensured every year to come and see his beautiful Christmas lights he put up in the home he shared with Denise. My thoughts go to Denise, all of his friends, family, Bella, Molly, Huzz and Buzz, and anyone else who was lucky to meet him. RIP Mike and I am forever grateful for the role you had in my life.
