PatrickHAVLINFollowing a period of ill health, Pat, as he was known, sadly passed away peacefully in Royal Blackburn Hospital on Tuesday, October 27, aged 75. Pat was born in Greenock, Scotland, the eldest of six boys, and came to live in Lancashire in 1968. He was a bricklayer by trade and worked on various sites where he was well thought of and made many friends. Pat was a member of the local Ramblers and many people will remember him carrying his grandson Cal on his shoulders, walking across the local hills and then finishing up at the Canine Club in Accrington. Pat liked to share a tale or two over a pint of Guinness and he was a keen follower of Celtic Football Club. He was a member of the Irish Democratic League Club in Haslingden and enjoyed listening to Irish music. He loved to socialise with his many friends and always enjoyed a good game of cards. Along with his wife Veronica, Pat enjoyed many family holidays to Scotland, Devon and Didcot in Oxfordshire. They were both lifelong members of St Anne’s and St Joseph’s Catholic Churches, Accrington. Pat has been described by many as a gentleman and a personality who was liked by all. Pat will be sadly missed by his wife Veronica, his brother Gerald, his children Fiona, Paula and Liam, grandchildren Callum, Laiken, George and Edward and also his daughter-in-law Diane, and Paula’s partner Tony. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and shared memories of Pat. Thanks also to all the Community Health Teams for their input and support. A funeral service (Requiem Mass) took place at St Joseph’s R.C. Church, Accrington on Monday, November 9. Donations in memory of Pat will be gratefully received for North West Air Ambulance or Alzheimer’s Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
