DerrickHEWITTPeacefully passed away on April 5th at The Willows Care Home in Shepshed. Derrick was 91 and was married to Denise for 51 years until her passing in 2006. Derrick attended Emmanuel, Cobden Street and Loughborough Grammar Schools. He joined William Cottons on leaving school and subsequently becoming a lecturer at Loughborough Technical College where he taught generations of budding engineers. Derrick was well known around Loughborough through his activities with St Johns Ambulance, U3A, and many other organisations. Derrick's contribution to the church and community was recognised in 2017 when he was presented with Maundy coins by the Queen in Leicester Cathedral. Latterly he researched and wrote a number of books on local history focusing on churches and the families who helped build Loughborough's industrial wealth. Derrick was a popular figure around Loughborough and leaves behind a family of 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren all of whom will miss him greatly. His funeral will be held at Emmanuel Church on May 18th at 10:45am which will be followed by a committal at the Crematorium. There will be a celebration of Derrick's life afterwards at Longcliffe Golf Club. Please remember Derrick by contributing to St Johns Ambulance xxxxxx.
