HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER VICTIMSIn memory of the 96 Liverpool Football Club supporters who died on 15 April, 1989.
They perished in the Leppings Lane End of Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield which was overcrowded by people hoping to see the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
The game was abandoned six minutes into play as people were crushed against fences at the front of the stand under the pressure of people surging into the stadium from the turnstiles.
Ninety-four people died at the scene, 766 were injured and another two died later in hospital. Of the victims, many were still in their teens and several were as young as 14.
It was a day that has marked the history of Liverpool FC, changed the shape of modern football and left a deep impact on all of those who survived.
