I spent alot of my childhood and early teens at PCTBC. I always remember Bob having words of encouragement for everyone. I used to practice my gymnastic ability on the outfield during cricket tea. Bob was the first to applaud, even when I fell on my head! My dad, the late Brian Hill Garstang, was very proud to call Bob a friend and always said he was the epitomey of sportsmanship and a true, honest gent. My thoughts are with Helen, his daughters, Brian and his many, many friends. Jane G.

I met Bob on my first working day when I walked into the City Architects Department at Manchester City Council in July 1976 and we worked together until Bob retired. We became firm friends. What a guy ! At work and socially, I will only every remember Bob with a smile on his face having just cracked a joke about ‘whatever’ 😆. Top Man ! We never had a bad word for each other in 48 years ! Though not unexpected when the bad news eventually came, tears were still shed. RIP Buddy ! 🙏. My thoughts are with you Helen, Katy, and Sally ❤️ … John Finlay
