Stephen was our brother-in-law. He was creative, caring and loved the natural world. All who met him found him very personable, you could always have an interesting conversation, he knew so much about a wide range of subjects.

In 2024 we had a wonderful holiday in Walchensee, Germany, with Elisabeth and Stephen. September sunshine, a beautiful lake and a magnificent backdrop of Bavarian Alps.

The highlight of the week was a trip on the cable car up the Herzogstand Mountain, on what was Elisabeth and Stephen’s 25th wedding anniversary. With an elevation of 1,731 metres there was a sprinkling of snow at the top and we were all stunned by the incredible views. However, for Stephen it was something extra special. In recent years he’d missed being able to walk on hills and mountains so this setting filled him with the utmost joy and contentment. Even with his limited sight, he could enjoy the feeling of being in such a large expanse of open space which felt like standing on top of the world.

We have some very special memories of that week and we feel privileged to have shared this time with Stephen and Elisabeth.

Stephen will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.
