The obituary notice of Peter John (Pete) HORN

Deeply saddened to hear of Pete's passing. Fond memories of a dear friend of many year's.

I have been shocked and saddened to hear of Peter’s sudden death. In common with others writing here I was always appreciative of his support when I first started at HMS and until the cull of some of the best teachers in the school. His assemblies always provided food for thought, sprinkled with a good dash of humour. My thoughts go out to Jill and the rest of his family and friends.

So sad to hear of Peter’s death. Condolences to the whole family.

Saddened to hear of Pete's passing. A jolt which reminds us all of our mortality. A respected teacher and colleague at Heaton Manor School. Firm, but fair with students and colleagues alike. Savage with cover - 3-4 covers on my 40th birthday and laughed it off. 'Stinky Pete', a Toy Story reference from a Germany School Trip - could take it and give it. 'Old Firm' HMS, from a great era of the school. Who will keep Ray in check now?

I was so devastated to hear about this. Mr Horn (as he will always be to former pupils!) had an absolutely huge influence on me, and I will be forever grateful for his encouragement and support. I went from Heaton Manor to studying History at Cambridge, and without a doubt wouldn’t have been able to do that if it wasn’t for him. It had been on my mind to reach out and catch up and let him know how things had worked out (in my 30s now), and it’s a big regret that I left it too late. If his family or close friends read this please know what a huge impact he had on so many students - he was one of the best teachers I ever had, and I’ll always remember his excellent ability to meet everyone at whatever level they were at and get the best out of them. He was very good at making the whole class laugh too! Thank you for everything Mr Horn. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the funeral as I live abroad now, but will be thinking of him.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear the news of Pete's passing. He was such a funny, lovely guy and we'd stayed in touch long after we'd both left Heaton Manor. His jokes when he gave assemblies were legendary! He always had a thought for old friends and would send me postcards from his travels. He'll be such a big miss. I'm so sorry that I'm unable to make it on Monday, due to work commitments, but I'll be making a donation in his memory.
