It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to someone who was not just a client to me, but a truly special part of my life for over five years.
I was originally employed on a short-term basis to help Olive rehabilitate after a fall. Nigel was convinced it would only be a couple of weeks — yet seven and a half years later, I was still there. What began as temporary support became an important and cherished role.
In the earlier years, we would spend our time building jigsaws together, talking and laughing. She would share stories of her years as a nursery teacher — stories filled with warmth, pride and an unmistakable love for the children she taught. It was clear that teaching wasn’t just her job; it was her calling.
For the last two and a half years, I also had the privilege of working alongside the team at Tenderhands. Together, we shared many special moments with Olive. She would often entertain us with her memories of nursery rhymes, proudly reciting them - “I’m Henry the VIII” was always her favourite.
Even as time changed and her memory started to fade, her caring nature never did. She always asked about my boys and my family, remembering them with such genuine interest and care.
I shall miss these treasured moments with her — the jigsaws, the songs, the stories, and the quiet conversations we shared.
I feel incredibly grateful to have known Olive and she will be deeply missed.
