Joyce MaryHUDSONJoyce Hudson, of Cliff Street, Rishton passed away at home on October 14. During her working life, Joyce fulfilled many roles such as working as a loom weaver at various cotton mills in the 1940s, 50s and 60s in the Great Harwood area, including Higham’s, as well as Bridgefield Mill, Spring Street, Rishton. Joyce also worked in several stores including Woolworth’s, Marks & Spencers and Rishton Co-op; she was also famous for pushing her trolley around English Electric selling sweets and cigarettes. Joyce loved to sing and when she was younger she would sing with her dad in the local workmen’s clubs as well as spontaneously bursting into song in the front room at home or in the kitchen, in the car or just about anywhere. Joyce and Ken enjoyed spending time at Rishton Tory Club. In her later years she enjoyed socialising at Prime Time, Rishton. She loved her crosswords and gossip magazines as well as never missing putting the numbers on the lottery every week. Joyce and Ken spent time holidaying abroad including Caribbean cruises and trips to America, holidays to Spain and the continent, as well as holidays in this country. Joyce knew how to enjoy life and regularly enjoyed her gin & tonic or Guinness and blackcurrant; if there was a party to be had, Joyce would be the life and soul, singing and dancing and making everyone laugh. Joyce loved to shop and loved dressing up and having her hair done ready to paint the town red. Joyce had an uncanny knack of touching many lives and was fondly referred to by many as ‘Auntie Joyce’. Even at age 93 she was always on her mobile phone texting or using Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp to enquire how people are going on; she had lots of online friends, many of whom were several generations younger than herself. It’s fair to say Joyce loved life and she was fortunate to live a long, happy and fulfilled life and she will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Hudson, and in her younger years, the late Roy Freeston. Elder sister to the late Jean & Benny. Sister-in-law to Pat. Step-mum to Denise and grandma to Adam, as well as a much loved auntie to a number of nieces and nephews. Her funeral service is due to take place on Monday, October 31 at 3pm at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please. Any donations in memory of Joyce kindly to RSPCA, care of Rishton Funeral Services, 16-18 High Street, Rishton.
