IAIN CUTHBERTSONThe actor of television and theatre Iain Cuthbertson died on 4 September, 2009, aged 79.Memorable for his towering figure and thick Glaswegian accent, he was best known for appearing in the light hearted crime caper series Budgie (1971-72) as the Scottish crook Charlie Endell. The character also appeared in a spin-off, Charles Endell, Esq (1979).He also starred as the headmaster in an Emmy-winning 1971 serialisation of Tom Brown's Schooldays and had the title role in five series of Sutherland's Law (1973-1976), as well appearing in hit shows of the era like Doctor Who and Z Cars.In children’s television he was the villain ‘Scunner’ Campbell in Super Gran between 1985 and 1987 and had earlier been amongst the leading cast of the acclaimed series Children of the Stones (1977).He also had a distinguished career on the stage and for three years ran the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow.In film he was seen in The Railway Children (1970), Scandal (1989) and Gorillas in the Mist (1988) amongst others.

I have very fond memories of Iain's role as a "Scallywag" starring alongside Adam Faith in Budgie, may you rest in peace.
