So sorry to learn of the passing of Peter. Peter was a true gentleman who was liked and respected by all at Watson-Marlow. Peter and Stephan were the key people who took WM from its humble beginnings, over 60 years ago, to its prime in the naughties. Now Peter and Stephan were very different characters, but what they did share was a common trait of being an engineering genius. I couldn’t have wished for a better electronics manager. As a true measure of the man; if I gave him a directive he did not agree with, he would argue his corner and when required would do his level best to support me throughout.
I recall one morning in the test laboratory when Peter overheard me being frustrated with having to get out of my chair and walk to the other side of the lab many times to operate a pump. I muttered “ if only there was a remote control”. I returned after lunch to find Peter with a grin on his face and dangling his car keyfob. Take this in the lab he said and have a go. Well, I now had a remote controller for the pump. You couldn’t wish for a better employee.
I will miss him very much but have lots of fond memories.

Tribute to Peter Ibbotson 7/12/23.
The many occasions we met up with Pete was at family gatherings and it was evident right from the start that he was a man who tremendously enjoyed being with his family. He was a good husband, father and grandfather. He and his beloved wife Pat shared with us the joy of seeing Simon our son and Sarah their daughter, getting married. Later along came Peter our mutual grandson followed by his younger brother George, eight years later. We will always remember Pete revelling in the times he spent playing with Peter and George. It was nothing to find him down on the floor with them engrossed in their activities, getting as much pleasure from their games as the boys did themselves.
Also, until his retirement Pete had had a very successful career at Watson Marlow. Before the cruel illness that plagued him in his final years. He had lived life to the full, spending holidays abroad with Pat and family. A good example of a life well lived is how we remember him.

A remarkable man who had time for everyone and whose skill with electronics knew no boundaries.
Strange how you remember certain things about people and one of my memories of Peter was his handwriting - small, neat and often in green ink.
