Walter GeorgeIRISHWalter George Irish aged 89 of Saltash in Cornwall, passed away on 10th January 2022 after a short battle with Cancer. Walter was born on 21st February 1932 to Henry and Mary Irish in Newton Abbott, Devon. At the young age of 17 he joined the Royal Marines as Marine 9040. He served for the full 22 Years taking in tours to Korea where he suffered shrapnel injuries and recuperated in Japan. The Falkland Islands, Borneo and Singapore to name just a few of the more exotic locations. In 1953 Walter met and married Betty in Stanley on the Falkland Islands. Walter and Betty went on to have 3 children, O'Linda, Trevor and Lorraine. In 1972, Walter retired from The Royal Marines and took a position as a Heavy Goods driver with English China Clay in Plymouth a role that took him all over the UK. In 1992 Walter retired, allowing he and Betty to spend plenty of time with their much loved children and Grandchildren and on their favourite activities that included travel, walking, the Houses and gardens of the National Trust, gardening and Line Dancing (for a while). Walter is predeceased by his sisters Doris and Kathleen, Daughter-in-law Suzanne and son-in-law Malcolm. He is survived by his wife Betty, children O'Linda, Trevor and Lorraine. Grandchildren Ross, Cara, John Christopher, Richard, Elise and Lex. Great Grandchildren Myla, Cosmo and Starlie. A Service will be held at Glynn Valley, Crematorium, Bodmin PL30 4AP on Saturday the 29th January 2022 at 10.30 am. Family flowers only please, with donations in lieu of flowers to The Royal Marines Charity via the collection box or online at www.rma-trmc.org a charity always close to his and his family's hearts. Due to Covid, space is limited at the Crematorium. Details of those wishing to attend to Co-operative Funeral Society on 01752 303165. For the safety of all and due to limited space, Covid Lateral Flow tests are kindly requested to be carried out by all attendees on the morning of the funeral.

My favourite neighbour growing up as a child, he was always such a smiling happy man with an infectious laugh and I loved how he called my mum “Sylvs” . So sorry for your loss.
