JACOB LASTTRIBUTES have been paid to a 16-year-old boy from Goffs Oak who died after becoming unwell in Hertford.Flowers and messages mark the spot in Hartham Common where Jacob Last, of Goffs Lane, was taken ill on Friday (Jul 13).Police and ambulance services were called to the scene at 9.20pm and took Jacob, who was with two male friends, to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, where he was treated in the intensive care unit, but he died there on Sunday at about 3pm.The teenager was a student at Turnford School in Cheshunt and due to receive his GCSE results next month. He also briefly attended Simon Balle School and Richard Hale School, both in Hertford.Turnford School headteacher Jo Gant said: "Jacob came to us for the last two years of his schooling."He was making a success of his life and was ready to receive a number of qualifications in the summer."Staff and students are devastated by his death and wish to send our love and support to his family."Jacob, who was also friends with many students at the Rivers Education Support Centre in Hoddesdon, lived with his mum, Charlotte Last, and her partner.Mrs Gant added that Jacob was particularly interested in engineering, which he had been hoping to study it at a higher level, and was keen to be involved with public services, particularly the army. The school has set up a respite and reflect room, where students have been writing messages about Jacob and putting up pictures.A Facebook page in his memory, 'Remember Jacob Last R.I.P', has been inundated with loving tributes.Phoebe Rose Hack said: "You were one amazing boy that's going to be truly missed forever. "Words can't describe how sad I am, you were one of the most loveliest boys I knew, your bubbly personality, your cheekiness just made you. "You never failed to put a smile on my face whenever I saw you."Luke Rogers said: "Love you always mate. We had soo many good memories that I will never ever forget. I hope you're in a better place now."The cause of death, subject to confirmation at an inquest, is pending toxicology results.Jacob's funeral will take place today (Friday, July 20) at 3pm at Enfield Crematorium.
