JANE MCGRATHJane Louise McGrath, who lost her battle with cancer on 22 June, 2008, was a campaigner against the disease along with her husband, Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath.Mrs McGrath was born in England in May 1966. She met Glenn at a nightclub in Hong Kong while working as an air steward and they married in 1999.She had been diagnosed with breast cancer two years earlier but overcame the disease to give birth to two children. In 2002 she and Glenn founded the McGrath Foundation so they “could help support other Australian women touched by breast cancer”.The following year she was diagnosed with bone cancer and in 2006 she discovered she had a brain tumour. She battled through surgery and chemotherapy and all its side effects, still continuing her charity work, raising more than $450,000 towards nurses and increasing awareness. Her achievements were recognised when she was made a Member of the Order of Australia “for service to community health through support for women with breast cancer and the establishment of the McGrath Foundation”.She died at her home in Cronulla, New South Wales, after another bout of illness and was survived by her husband and their children, James, 8, and Holly, 6.http://www.mcgrath foundation. com.au

A few days after arriving from Scotland on a visit to family in Perth WA, my wife and I saw on TV the "Enough Rope" interview with Glenn and Jane McGrath. We were moved and humbled beyond words by Jane's spirit and optimism. It is profoundly sad that, just over two months later, this courageous lass has died. She was an inspiration to us all. To Glenn, James, Holly and all who mourn her we offer sympathy, prayers and love.

I knew Jane many years ago when she lived in the West Midlands. We used to go to the same nightclubs and she dated a good friend of mine. I will always remember Jane for being probably the most beautiful girl in the club with her long platinum blond hair, equisite features and gentle manner. I have to say, I would look at her and wish I could look just like her. She was beautiful not only in face but in soul too. Her husband, children and family can be extremely proud of Jane and the lasting legacy she leaves behind. RIP in peace Jane. Heaven has just acquired another Angel xxx

It's really inspiring to encounter a western man who stood by his wife in such bad times. Neverthless, it is an evidence that undoubtedly Jane was a great woman who not only courageously fought against her disease but also iniated awareness. Hats off to both of ya! I wish there were words that could decrease Glenn's blow but I know there aren't any. On a short note, Glenn We all love YOU!You have roved that you are not only a brilliant cricketer but also an equally good human, take care.

This is just too sad for words. It was upsetting to hear Glen talk so emotionally about his wife at the last Ashes. But this, it's awful. She was such a beautiful, brave woman and now she's been taken away. My heart goes out to Glenn and his family.

Condolences to the McGrath family. Jane really epitomises the saying 'Behind every great man there's a great woman'.
