JOHN HOLMESLeeds rugby legend, 'one-club' man John Holmes, died aged 57 on 26 September, 2009, after a battle with cancer.He made 625 appearances for the rugby league club over 20 years from 1968, an all-time club record.He held down a printing job throughout his playing career and returned to it full-time after retiring at 38.Holmes amassed 1,554 points at full-back, centre and stand-off, fourth best in the club's history.He was capped 20 times for Great Britain between 1971 and 1982 and played in the 1972 and 1977 World Cups. He won seven England caps and made eight appearances for Yorkshire.In the domestic Challenge Cup final of 1978 scored an all-important drop goal which helped Leeds to a 14-12 victory over St Helens.During his career he won every available honour.
