So sad to hear this news about a great friend who will be sadly missed. His contribution to football in the County is way beyond measure and so many people benefited from his help and experience. Condolences to June and the rest of the family from Pat and Alan

I remember Syd from the 1970s when I was a patient at Stannington Children’s Hospital for several years. He worked in the boiler house, while his wife June was an SRN nurse on my ward. He would show us how things worked in the boiler house. If we turned up with a football, he would have a kick around outside. Later we would meet up with Caroline and Heather along The Drive, for snowball fights. Happy days. Great memories. Farewell Syd.
