A kind and (especially patient) man who taught a city kid amongst other things the difference between a flower and a weed.

Even after moving away from Ockley and indeed Surrey I would often wonder how things were and have never driven through Ockley without thinking of Nev and the happy 8 years I worked for him on the estate. Also I have never forgotten what he taught me about the countryside and I have loved it since.

Gone but not forgotten - Thanks Nev, it was a pleasure to know you.

Driving through Ockley , I will still expect to see a cheery smile and a wonky fingerless hand wave ! Richard in the tractor always mentioned and mimicked the wave “ I saw ( wave ) Grandad and grandmas mate Nev today “ to make us smile . I remember coming to the farm for evenings for the “grown ups “ to get together and visiting when mum did old Mrs Jolly’s hair ( always cake I believe?!) fond memories of him and his distinctive voice .
