Dear Daddy
Me again. Did l ever tell you what a great daddy you were? I hope l did. I'm about to start my final year at the OU with an amazing offer you'd be so proud of. I'm involved in some online therapy and the people running it asked me to stay on. Immediately l began to try to work out what l'd done. But they wanted to ask about my goals. No problem. I want to be a therapist. Long and short of it, they asked if when l was 'shadowing' l'd shadowing with them. Neat eh? But l got it from you, taking me out down to - you know where. It was 1959. Before your accident. You told me that you were collecting money for the SVP society. I couldn't understand it. These were people who had nothing, some of them couldn't even afford a shilling for the gas. certainly not the stuff l took for granted. Carpets, clean clothes, food - children the same age as me, but out on the road in vest and pants, torn and grubby. l couldn't believe you were so cruel. I couldn't work out why they were so pleased to see him. You were so kind and polite, but l couldn't put the picture together. Then one day, we were walking back home and you started asking me questions. I wasn't 3½! But he carried on to just tell me what l was going home to. No meters, a fire in the grate, a meal on the table, clean pjs, clean bedding, carpets on every floor but the kitchen. And how much l had compared with the children in grubby, torn underwear. And that no matter what anyone's conditions were, you had to treat them with courtesy and respect and leave them with dignity. Now, l know l'm not as good as you, but l'm trying.
And here's my new little friend.

Dear daddy
It's been a while. Covid and all that, but you'll have Tinker to walk with Mummy now. Remember when that little boy yellec , 'hey mister, your dog runs like it's got a rocket up its ****?' I miss her, but l know you'll look after her. I have a puppy now. A mutt called Slipper who's chewing my house up. But she's very like Tinker. Naughty, pretty, cheeky, loving. So l'm not alone. She likes tea! It's been raining forever here, and Slipper's coat hasn't come yet. Her fur is too soft to go out without one, so we're cuddled up here. You are still my hero, l still love you more than anything and l will see you sooner.
Your darling daughter

my darling daddy

Bit late because Ive been a bit under the weath. That dashed brain tumour again, but here in Narnia, Im being very very well cared for. One thing that might make you smile, is that Im a tailor! Friends send me fabric to make them fantasy cloaks and historical costumes, all hand sewn, sitting cross legged on the floor. You might not have sewed my new blue jeans, but you seem to have given me the sewing gene. Tinker is going strong. Still barking at cats and horses. I tell her that they wont come into her house, but she doesnt take any chances. The hedgerows are filled with snowdrops and daffodils, and I bought oh, dyou know, Ive forgotten how many honeysuckle to climb on my fence, and three new roses. Come and visit. Bring mummy. I love you. I always will, and many of my ND friends remember you very very fondly. Oh! And Im transcribing mummys letters to send to the RSA like you wanted. They are very grateful. I love you
