CourtneyJOHNIt is with great sadness that the family of the late Courtney John share the news of his tragic and sudden passing on Friday 31st May 2024.
He fell asleep on his boat, Sea J1, in Gibraltar, after spending the most fabulous day on the seas with his family, where dolphins, whales and even a turtle came to say hello, and sadly goodbye.
His Queen, Christine, woke to find he had slipped away next to her, quietly and peacefully, from a suspected cardiac event.
Leonard Courtney John, born on 5th July 1945, known to many as Courtney, or CJ.
Superb son to the late Freda and Daniel John. Most loving, generous, kind, respected and special husband to Christine, dad to Nicola & Spencer, father-in-law to James and Joanna, Grampa to Sam, Ben, Emilia & Leo.
He was cherished and adored by his family, who are heartbroken.
He was their Captain, their hero. He was a true friend to so many. He was held in such high esteem by all. He was an exemplary businessman, a brilliant engineer, like no other. He created the legacy of Llanelec, his pride and joy. He was, above all, a true gentleman with such a good heart. His soul will live forever with us all. His words and his endless phrases will stay with us, and guide us always. He says he had reserved his place at the Pearly Gates, next to the bank. Courtney lived life to the full. No need for black at the funeral. Courtney always used to say: " You wash up well, you do!" Wear whatever you want.
We will be celebrating his amazing life, and the legacy he has left behind on Monday 24th June at Margam Crematorium at 1.45pm.
There will be a coach, DJ Thomas, from Banana Island, Dwr-y-Felin, at 1.00pm to Margam, for all those who would like transport to the funeral. Then, coach to The Glynclydach Hotel, Longford, Neath afterwards for a proper send-off to the most incredible and unique gentleman.
Family flowers only please, donations in lieu to the RNLI c/o Mr Gareth A. Jenkins Independent Funeral Director of Baglan Funeral Home, 115 Pentwyn Baglan Road, Baglan, Port Talbot, SA12 8EB, Tel. 01639 790333.
