I remember being enthralled by his service accompaniment and voluntaries in Llandaff when visiting my grandparents in the 1960s and 1970s. He got some wonderful effects out of that instrument. Mediocre hymn tunes were made exciting by his skill and imagination and I recall that on one occasion the theme music of “The Archers” was worked into a chant accompanying a psalm with and agricultural theme. Happily, his memory lives on through a number of records which demonstrate his genius as an organist and choir trainer.
I owe him a great debt of gratitude for inspiring an interest in choral and organ music.

What a beautiful person inside and out. A wonderful teacher and a lovely man. He had such a gentle way about him - one that has stayed with me as a musician, teacher and human being. Thank you Robert for everything.

So sorry to hear of Robert's passing, he was a great teacher, full of encouragement & honesty, he taught me so much both practically & theoretically on an Adult Music Course run by Lifelong Learning at Neath YMCA. I have great respect for him & am still putting what he taught me to good use. Will be forever grateful to him. He will be missed by many. Thank you Robert xXx Judith Randall

What sad news to hear of the passing of my dear friend Robert Joyce.
I look back with both great admiration and respect to Robert Joyce who was my organ teacher for four years whilst a student at the now Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He taught me so much and was a lovely man to be around.
Two years ago I was fortunate to make a visit down memory lane and visit Robert while he was residing in a Nursing home approaching his 90th birthday. We had always kept in touch over many years by phone or card and it was great to actually meet again and chat over my days as a student and my continued journey and not least to thank him personally for being my organ teacher and just what that had meant to me.
Robert loved his music lecturing and meeting and sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with many who were fortunate to attend his classes.
A lovely gentle man who I will always remember with great fondness.
Never forgotten, rest in peace dear friend, Robert.

Harry during his tenure as the Organist and Master of the Choristers at Llandaff Cathedral was held in the highest esteem by musicians who marvelled at his skill to coax music from Jayne Mansfield, his humour and ability to improvise under the 'normal' emergencies that arise in the Close
And held in the greatest affection by so many who worked with him. His wit and fellowship made life-long friends ......... sadly so many gone before him that would have wished to be there to sing him out.
